España se proclamó campeona olímpica en la final de Elliott 6 al imponerse en la quinta y útlima manga a Australia por 3-2. Es la segunda medalla en vela en los Juegos de Londres y la tercera de oro en total para España.
En la primera, la patrona Támara Echegoyen y las tripulantes Sofía Toro y Ángela Pumariega salieron primeras pero las australianas Olivia Price, Nina Curtis y Lucinda Whitty las marcaron desde cerca por barlovento, aunque las empopadas españolas fueron potentes para llevarse este primer parcial en una ajustada llegada.
